Which option, 2x4 construction or 2x6 construction is better for heating bills? there are two elements to dramatically adjusting your heating bills when construction a home. buying the most insulation with the highest r value (insulation capabilities), and making the house "tight", or restricting the air flow between the outside and the inside.. A gravel floor can be used if you are building a pole style building.-pressure treated lumber vs. standard lumber. the best material for building the floor of your shed is pressure treated lumber. you can certainly use regular non pt but it won’t last very long being that close to the ground.-how high off the ground?. I am in the process of building a 10x16 shed with 2x6 floor joists. i received my lumber package yesterday and noticed the 2x6x16 are missing to frame the floor (band joist). i called the lumber yard and they told me it is common to frame the floor with 2x4's and use the 2x6 as the floor joist. is this common? i have never heard of this and it sounds weird to me..
