On one hand, it'll help protect the wood and make it look better, but on the other hand, it's just a garage bench, made to take a bit of a beating, and the finish will likely just get scratched in the end anyway.. I tore down my crappy old workbench and made this one, then covered the top with quarter inch steel. i dont really do a whole lot of woodworking projects or anything like that. that being said, i think i did a pretty good job on this.. Adding a garage workbench is an essential and beneficial task most of you will appreciate for the rest of their lives. after all, you get additional space, you get a sturdy surface to work on, and you will make your garage look so much better..
